A quieter colonial story
Tranquebar was leased by the Danish East India Company in 1620 and sold to the British in 1845. The town is small enough to see on foot: Fort Dansborg on the beach, King’s Street and its gateway, the old churches and the fishing harbour.
The day with us
A guide walks you through the stories of Danish and other European influence and of the fishing town that grew around them. You finish with a meal in a heritage building facing the sea.
